Prediction for Undateable and One Big Happy

Undateable

Network: NBC

Time: Tuesday, March 17 at 9/8c

Genre: Multi-Camera Comedy

Duration: 30 Minutes (Including Commericals)

Theme: A man, Danny, joins his three friends at a bar. All have qualities that could make them considered to be “undateable” (hence the name). Based off a book.

Lead-In: The Voice

Lead-Out: One Big Happy (SERIES PREMIERE)

Broadcast Competition: Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, iZombie (SERIES PREMIERE)

Pros: Its lead-in is the best (and only good one) NBC has at the current moment. Being a comedy, one most likely would not have had to watch the first season in order to enjoy this one. The cast was a big hit while taking questions at a panel, and has been promoting the show through a grassroots tour.

Cons: The first season, originally slated for spring, was moved back to the summer. The premiere did surprisingly well for summer, but its finale ended on around half of that number, just abive the series low of 0.5. Look at The Night Shift: post-Voice time slot does not guarantee success.

Side Note: In the same time slot last spring, About A Boy settled in the mid-to-high 1s.

PREDICTION for Undateable: 1.4

One Big Happy

Network: NBC

Time: Tuesday, March 17 at 9:30/8:30c

Genre: Multi-Camera Comedy

Duration: 30 Minutes (Including Commericals)

Theme: “About a gay woman who is pregnant with her best friend’s baby, and her best friend is in love with another woman”.

Lead-In: Undateble (SEASON PREMIERE)

Lead-Out: Chicago Fire

Broadcast Competition: Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, iZombie (SERIES PREMIERE)

Pros: This is a stretch, but it only has a six-episode order, so it can’t go that low,  right? Actually, it probably can.

Cons: Where to start…well first, there’s the fact that NBC, who has absolutely no sitcoms working right now, only sees six episodes of potential. IMDB rates it at a 4.1/10. USA Today is calling it “one big mess”, Daily Beast says it’s “a big step back for gays”, and IGN rated the pilot 4.5/10, straight-up calling it bad. And that’s all only stuff from this morning! Even though Ellen is the executive producer, that didn’t get Sofia Vergara’s Killer Woman too far. America is ready for a black family, an Asian-American family, some shows have had success with gay characters, but NBC really has not (see: Welcome to the Family, Sean Saves the World, The New Normal). Neither About A Boy nor Growing Up Fisher have had luck in this time slot this past year, and both are/were family comedies! (a.k.a. took very little racial/sexuality risk).

Side Note: In the same time slot last spring, Growing Up Fisher settled in the low 1s. About A Boy did similarly this season, and went even lower when it aired without The Voice.

PREDICTION for One Big Happy: 0.8
